Regarding the Dec. 29 letter to the editor "Multiple Stupidities," in which John B. Mooney was critical of having guns in schools as a response to the Newtown, Conn., murders, after reading it I wondered, what was he smoking?
How does he feel about armed deputies at Pasco County's middle and high schools? My understanding is at least a third of all the schools in this country already have armed security in place. Adopting his ideas maybe we should remove those already there and save a lot of tax dollars.
As long as people take the views of Mr. Mooney, nothing will ever get done regarding protecting our greatest resources, our nation's children. We should adopt one way in and one way out of the schools, such as we already have in place in most of our government buildings and with armed personnel manning those doors. Only then will violence in our schools, at least to the extent of those in the past, disappear from our society.
My wife and I, being holders of concealed-carry firearm permits, are as concerned as anyone regarding this issue, but until the anti-gun folks open their eyes to the more deep-rooted problems facing this country, nothing will ever get done.

Questionable comment
In response to the Jan. 2 editorial page commentary by Rhonda Swan, "The GOP Must Embrace Change," in which she accused Florida Gov. Rick Scott and other Republican leaders of alienating African-Americans, Latinos, women and young people, I would ask her:
During the four years that Barack Obama has been president he has systematically moved to reduce our image and economic impact in the world.
After Swan learns some history, she should watch 2016 and get over her racial issues.
