EAST LAKE - Wednesday night provided an opportunity for East Lake reserves to show what they’ve got and no one disappointed.

The Eagles (8-2) easily handled rebuilding Clearwater 14-0, racking up 14 hits to the Tornadoes’ one over the 4 1/2 innings of play.

East Lake staff ace Gabby Orito also got the night off, giving way to No. 2 Diana Rayder. The freshman ran with the opportunity by turning in four innings of no-hit ball and striking out six.

Five Eagles hitters had multi-hit nights. Hitting one-two in the order, Mallory Lopez and Haley Michael, respectively, led the way by setting the table with three hits apiece.

Rayder added to her performance with two hits and three RBIs.

Cleanup hitter Hannah Roberts, typically the East Lake’s designated player but playing first tonight, extended Eagles' lead to 11-0 in the third with an inside-the-park grand slam. The junior accounted for six RBIs.

That hit was one of four extra-base hits by Eagles hitters. Lopez, Rayder and Courtney Rehula each added doubles.

Clearwater managed one hit Wednesday when freshman Savannah Summy reached with a fifth-inning single off relief pitcher Maddie Bertisch. It was the Tornadoes’ last of two total baserunners on the night. Kate-Lyn Sodomka drew a walk in the second inning.

The Eagles return to the field Friday evening to play their first Class 8A District 8 game when visiting North Port comes to East Lake.
