We know David Wells can pitch a perfect baseball game, but can he shake a perfect martini?

On Thursday, visitors to Pete and Shorty's in Pinellas Park can find out as Wells and other celebrities get behind the bar to serve drinks and raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County during Stars Behind the Bar.

Prominent figures set to mix cocktails and mingle with the crowd include Cheap Trick lead singer Robin Zander, Olympic gold-medal swimmer Brooke Bennett, radio personality Meredith Walusek and Tampa Bay Rays broadcaster Todd Kalas.

Former baseball All-Star Fred McGriff and local sports reporter and author Roxanne Wilder will also participate.

Over a 21-year career, Wells pitched for several major-league teams, including the New York Yankees in 1998, when he pitched a perfect game.

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include a silent auction, and food and drink specials. The celebrities will also interact with the guests in the dining area.

Proceeds will help Big Brothers Big Sisters, which matches children with older mentors. A news release from the organization said it costs $1,200 to make one new match and noted that 1,440 children were matched with mentors in 2012.

More information is available at the organization's Facebook page at facebook.com/BBBSPC.
