TARPON SPRINGS - St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral is setting up for three days of food, music and family fun it brings to the community twice a year.Published: February 21, 2013
The event, Friday through Sunday, offers a little of everything at the church's community center, located at 348 N. Pinellas Ave.
"It's good to get everybody together; we're raising money for the church and we're trying to get things going," said parish council member George Dovellos. "It's a fun event and we have it wide open. There's no admission charge."
St. Nicholas also puts on a similar festival in November. This weekend's event operates from noon until 10 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
A wide variety of Greek food can always be anticipated, but other fare is offered as well, such as beef or pork barbecue ribs, chicken and lamb shank.
A Greek band playing all three days adds to the festival's authentic feel and a disk jockey will provide additional music throughout.
Scheduled entertainment also includes Hellenic dance, Dovellos said. "There will be our church dancers and dancers from other churches performing, as well."
After pushing away from the dining table between courses, festival-goers will have more than 25 booths in the community center vending products of all sorts, such as clothing, accessories, perfumes and more.
For families with children, a kid's zone will be set up.
