You had better get outside early today because rain is coming this afternoon, according to Megan Hatton, meteorologist for News Channel 8.

There will be some sun early this afternoon, but we should see rain by 6 p.m. and isolated thunderstorms by 9 p.m., she said. There is a 30 percent chance of showers for the area at 1 p.m., but that rises to 60 percent later this afternoon.

The day started with a heavy fog advisory, which expired at 9 a.m. Visibility was down to a quarter mile in Plant City and Lakeland, and a half-mile in Brandon and Sarasota, she said.

The morning commute Monday also promises to be soggy, she said, with a 40 percent chance of rain.
