A Pinellas County school crossing guard suffered minor injuries after he was struck by a car Wednesday morning.

According to Pinellas County deputies, Nelson Guenther was crossing southbound at 102nd Avenue at 131st Street in unincorporated Largo with the crossing signal when he was struck by Richard Barbieri as he attempted to turn west on 102nd Avenue.

Failing to yield at the pedestrian crossing, Barbieri, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, struck Guenther in the left forearm with his driver's side mirror.

Guenther was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, deputies said. Barbieri was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
