Hurricane season may be well over in the meteorological sense, but the Palm Harbor University soccer program is once again extending that period well into February.
Wreaking havoc on the soccer pitch rather than coastal shores, PHU boys and girls are making their presences felt for the second year running at the state final four.
After being rained out of Friday night's Class 6A regional final, the PHU boys (20-5-3) handily defeated Orlando Olympia High School 3-1 to advance to the final four at the University of Tampa. Pepin Stadium was the sight of PHU's Class 5A state championship victory last season.
Following the victory, much of the team rolled onto the UT campus for the PHU girls 6A state title game against Boca Raton midway through the first half and watched the Hurricanes win a 1-0 overtime thriller. The girls also won last year's Class 5A state championship.
The boys semifinal match will be held Friday at Pepin Stadium.
