Never againPublished: June 23, 2012
In his June 16 op-ed page column, liberal Democrat Marty Moore resorted again to name calling. I said to myself that I would never stoop so low, but now I have to. When he has no argument, Moore resorts to name calling. Here's a case in point: "partisan brats," "wild-eyed, tea party bullies," "rock for brains crowd" and similar characterizations in previous columns.
Moore wants the GOP to compromise, but when his president was asked to compromise at a time his party controlled both houses of Congress, his reply was, "We won, they lost." But now that he has lost the House he wants to compromise. Fat chance.
How many budget proposals did he send to the Senate and all were rejected by 98 to zilch? The House sent many budget proposals to the Senate and Majority Leader Harry Reid would not even bring them up for a vote. So who is blocking progress?
If Marty knew history, he would remember that the Democrats promised President Ronald Reagan $1 of spending cuts for every $1 raised in taxes; the cuts never happened but taxes were raised. The same happened to the first President Bush, and now the Democrats come up with the same proposal. As the saying goes: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. But a third time? Never.
As for Moore's criticism of government austerity, if spending more and raising taxes were good for the economy, Greece would be a booming economy, and the Greeks would be bailing out Germany, not the other way around.

Not paying
Hudson Beach, next to Sam's Beach Bar, has a $2 county park parking fee. Most people used to go for a short time to the small county park. People from Hudson don't go now; it isn't worth the $2.
People with trucks used to go in there to eat their bag lunches and sit by the water a little while and then go back to work. They wouldn't do that now if they have to pay $2.
If people want to eat at Sam's and its small parking lot is filled, they will go somewhere else to eat rather than pay $2 to park in the beach park.
