No one was hurt, but the bullets shattered a large plate-glass window, several glass doors and damaged walls inside the hotel's lobby, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. The hotel manager told police the shooting had caused $7,000 worth of damage.
The shooting also shattered a window panel at a nearby bus shelter.
An argument between a man at the hotel, which is at 326 First Ave. N., and a group got physical shortly after 9 p.m. Then one of the members of the group aimed a handgun at the man and the hotel and started shooting, police said.
The police department has not identified anyone involved in the fight or made any arrests, but the shooting remains under investigation.
