Van strikes Clearwater pedestrian, who dies

Clearwater police on Tuesday identified a man who died after he was hit by a van Saturday night.Published: December 4, 2012
Paul Francis Almeida, 57, of Clearwater was attempting to walk west across Missouri Avenue near Turner Street at 7:42 p.m., when he was struck by a 2006 Toyota van driven by Andrew Philip Drake, 32, of Clearwater, police said.
Drake, who was traveling south on Missouri, said he was unable to avoid hitting Almeida, police said.
Almeida was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he died.
Drake was not injured.
Investigators did not immediately release the victim's name because family members, who lived out of state, needed to be notified.
