Online rage follows Anthony jury home to Pinellas

»  Comments | Post a Comment

It's feeling a bit hotter in Pinellas County, and this time, it's not the temperature.

The not-guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony trial isn't sitting well in Florida or north of the border, and guess who's getting much of the blame?

Yep, Pinellas. Land of Hulk Hogan, stadium catwalks, seniors in Speedos.

And now, freeing Casey Anthony? Seriously?

Social media has been beyond vitriolic since a Pinellas jury found Anthony not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Tuesday. The jury was sequestered in Orlando during the six-week trial, which featured some incriminating circumstantial evidence against Anthony.

And so much media coverage that observers feel informed enough to cast a vote.

"I'm stunned. What a dark cloud over Pinellas County," comments BullsBelle on TBO.com.

"Pinellas County let us down, I'm totally embarrassed but then again I'm not from Pinellas County. No justice for that innocent little girl. There is no justice in the justice system," adds TBO.com commenter mystic7.

Jurors made their decision in less than 11 hours, and the result has left much of the Internet world incredulous and primed for Suncoast sniping.

The_Devils_Advocate on TBO.com comments: "It's a very sad day to be a Pinellas County resident. ... They really let us down and only needed 10 hours to do it."

The remarks often get personal.

"Apparently, the lesson learned is NOT to drink the water when visiting Pinellas County or your brain too may shrink to the depths of stupidity like the 12 idiot jurors that Orange County imported," Phillip Barthel adds on Facebook.

Actually, Phillip, the water is among Pinellas' best features, with top-notch beaches and fishing.

No matter. More hating.

"This jury just proved how foolish the average Pinellas County resident is," writes pierre7468 in the TBO.com comments.

A Boca Raton tweet from @DavidShenk reads: "Pinellas County is home base for Floridiots. Sad to say, I'm from Florida. However, not Pinellas County, thank goodness."

No sure we can remove South Florida from the state's pit list, David. Think hanging chads. But we digress and offer some local humiliation.

@nickygirl77 tweets: "Ashamed to be a Pinellas County resident and Floridian."

@Nik_A_Chick tweets: "Still shocked. ... So proud to be from Pinellas County ... NOT!!!"

@heyheyhallie state gives us: "I'm ashamed to live in Pinellas County. ... Why did they have to be from here? Oh well, Casey Anthony, have fun in jail anyways."

Another tweeter, @chuchi1111, offers some legal advice:

"Note to self. ... If i get in big trouble with the law ... my jury needs to be from Pinellas County!"

The techno-rage goes on and on, so it's time to shake some laptops into reality.

Folks, no matter if you are for or against the Anthony 12, remember there are 916,000 people in Pinellas. Hardly a representative sample.

With that in mind, we bring you balance from TBO.com commenter Chris610:

"Plenty of evidence? It was all circumstantial, it was not proven by the DA, I'm proud of Pinellas County. They did their job. The law states innocent 'until' proven guilty. It is the prosecution's job to prove her guilty, and they didn't do that."
