Worthy Cause

As you can see in the photo above, from the scene of the explosion Wednesday at a house in Dunedin, humans are not always the only victim in such emergencies. The family dog suffered respiratory injuries in the explosion and needed treatment at the scene.

The Palm Harbor-based Suncoast Animal League is in the midst of supplying to emergency-service units in Pinellas County oxygen masks for use on animals. It replenished Clearwater Fire and Rescue's stock of the masks Thursday. The league first gave the special masks to the department in 2005, after it had to improvise with a mask meant for humans while successfully reviving a dog overcome by carbon monoxide.

The league estimates it needs another 100 of the three-mask sets to complete the project. Anyone wishing to donate to this worthy cause should contact the Suncoast Animal League at 727-786-1330.
