With a regular gig singing at Trio's Lounge in New Port Richey and a just-released CD, Lulu has not missed a beat since moving to Hudson from Massachusetts, in late 2005.
She performs at Trio's every other Saturday and will be at The Grand restaurant in New Port Richey Friday.
She also released her first CD, "Heartaches Can Happen," on July 28.
Regulars at Trio's have become almost a family, she says. "I have a fan club that goes there. We have a crazy time."
Don't expect Lulu to wear anything drab in her act.
"I wear sexy clothes. Halter tops, hip huggers and my shoes. I suffer from pain at the end of the night, but I love my pretty shoes."
Her musical menu is versatile.
"I do oldies. I go country. I do pop. I kind of do everything, but I don't do rap.
"I'm 51 years old," she laughs, in explanation of her lack of expertise in rap.
Trio's patrons get two for the price of one, she says. Albino Faria Jr. serves as DJ between Lulu's sets.
Her CD features songs "Heartaches Can Happen" and "Get Back." She bought the rights to both songs, Lulu said. Her CD is the first time they have been recorded.
Other tunes include "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "My Heart Will Go On."
Lulu, in case anyone is confused, is not the redheaded Scottish pop singer of the same name who is best known in this country for singing the title song from the 1967 Sidney Poitier movie "To Sir, With Love."
The local Lulu was born and grew up in Fall River, Mass., in a musical family, she says. She remembers singing sitting in a swing as a child.
Her mother, father, brother and sisters have all placed in karaoke contests.
While working as a piecework machine operator in Fall River days, during nights Lulu sang with numerous local bands for almost 20 years.
She and Faria recently performed Latin American music at Bright House Networks Night in the Tropics in New Port Richey.
