Pasco County clerk easily wins reelection

NEW PORT RICHEY - NEW PORT RICHEY Pasco County Clerk and Controller Paula O'Neil easily won reelection Tuesday over no-party challenger Roberta Cutting.Published: November 7, 2012
O'Neil, a Republican, garnered 76 percent of the vote.
"I'm so happy and honored to continue to serve as clerk," O'Neil said from her victory party in Meadow Pointe. "I'm looking forward to bringing the office further into the technology age."
The clerk's office is responsible for managing the jury system, collecting fines, investing county funds, storing and maintaining evidence used in criminal proceedings, managing the jury system and filing and recording official documents and court records, among other duties.
O'Neil, 56, was first elected in 2008 to succeed retiring clerk Jed Pittman. She has steered the department through tough economic times that forced her to reduce staff and manage the huge spike in foreclosure cases.
O'Neil, who earned her Ph.D. in Applied Management, is a regular fixture at county commission meetings.
