CLEARWATER - The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and Clearwater Police Department will jointly conduct a DUI checkpoint this Friday, June 29, at Clearwater High School.

The checkpoint is part of a once-a-month effort by the Sheriff's Office to reduce DUI-related injuries. Locations of the stops vary each month. Clearwater High School is on the corner of S. Hercules Avenue and Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard.

Deputies and police officers will be stopping motorists from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Community policing, K-9 and narcotics units will also be present at the checkpoint.

Along with alcohol- or drug-induced impairment, deputies and officers will be looking for driver license, registration, insurance and equipment violations.

The Sheriff's Office and Clearwater Police Department will both have their mobile command buses on site to conduct breath testing and process arrest individuals.

According to a Sheriff's Office press release, Friday's checkpoint is dedicated to Harold Davis and Jason Hennis. Both were killed by a drunk driver on Aug. 19, 2008.
