Now playing is the British comedy "Caught in the Net." The show, which opened last week, has performances today through Sunday and Nov. 5-7.
Sequels are common in movies, but a rarity for the stage. "Caught in the Net" is one of those rarities. It is written by British playwright Ray Cooney, who has written more than 20 plays in a career that spans 40-plus years.
One of his most popular shows with American audiences was the 1982 hit "Run for Your Wife."
"Caught in the Net," which debuted in 2001, is the follow-up, and is another rarity - a sequel that can stand up to the original. The play revolves around John Smith, a taxi driver who is living the good life - two of them actually.
He is a bigamist, and has successfully managed to keep his two families a secret from one another. In "Run for your Wife," John has to avert a disastrous meeting between his two wives.
In "Caught in the Net," the danger of being discovered has grown, literally. His grown son from one marriage and grown daughter from the other have met online, and are intrigued by how much they have in common.
They have the same last name, and their dads do the same thing for a living. When John finds out that the two are corresponding, he is rightfully afraid of all the ways this could be disastrous, and he is determined to prevent it.
The cast includes Bob Marcela as John; Chris Cavalier and Allison Iskowitz as John's son and daughter; JoAnne Larson and Jeaux Brown as John's wives, Joe Connelly as "dad" and Rich Aront as John's hapless friend, Stanley.
